Nightshirts ! (Updated)

This is a second attempt at my blog, and may get pulled back for additional content,  .... however.

When I was a young man, I usually slept in the nude, Never feeling cold enough to need to wear pyjamas or the likes.  on the odd really cold night, I would sleep in a T shirt.

However as the years have flown by and I am older now with a heart condition, The circulation is not what it used to be, therefore I now sleep in a night shirt.  I prefer something knee length rather than the full length "Scrooge" style, ( and NO I don't wear a hat!)  although I have slept in an Egyptian Galebeya when very cold.

Nightshirts for men are not a common sight and tend to be available through the mail order companies and the niche markets.

I am not sure why they went out of fashion as they are much more comfortable than pyjama's. in my humble opinion that is.

The first ones I bought were from New Zealand Silks, and although very comfortable they were a bit diaphanous,   Don't stand in front of the light !

Apart from the cost of about £29. they were not really easy care, being silk.  So when Mrs Radiostar took the washing to the river, the rocks would put little pulls in my nightshirts plus a few extra holes.

Every so often I will do a web search for Mens Nightshirts and rarely find anything I like,

There is a company in New York City, USA, who show some nice ones on their website, but they do not export, Well only to Canada.......

Then I saw this: on the Damart website.

Now I don't know about you, but to me, it looks like a night shirt

When I read through the details, it refered to an elasticated waist.   Ermmm, How can I night shirt have an elasticated waist?

Also the sizes were a bit of a mystery to an old bloke like me, such as 34+  38+ and so on,  their website size chart was really good, except it did not mention 34+ or 38+.

So despite being an expensive call, 10 pence per minute on an 0870 number, ( If they used a geographical number it would only cost me half that.)

I called their order line,  A clinically efficient lady struggled with the concept that I might want to ask a question and not just blindly order items, I managed to get her to clarify the sizing question,

It seems that 34+ is 34 and above, so I assume that means 34/35/36/37  But where do we stop, because size 40 is more than 34. I thoght what a wonderful system, so simple, in fact all you really need is one size,  If they started at 28+ then everyone could fit.

No explanation of the elasticated waist, She, like me was just reading the blurb. So I thought I would place the order on line.

The price was cheap, as they were discounted 50% and I paid about £10 in total,  The package arrived today by courier, so the price and delivery, Full marks

The product?  Turned out to be Boring old Pyjamas,

I keep looking at the picture and I have looked at it sideways and backwards, eyes half closed, eyes wide open, Nope!  Still looks like a night shirt to me.

This triggers the thought, why would they show a picture of one product and then ship out another.  Could this be construed as misrepresentation?

If I showed you a picture of a designer suit on Ebay and then shipped out something from the chain stores, while it might be just as good, It ain't what I said it was.

So if any reader of this stuff is thinking of buying one of these advertised nightshirts, I would advise DON'T.

Oh, and the size was 34+ and I ordered 38+

Of course you may be lucky and actually get what you thought you ordered, A nightshirt.

Oh and if you happen to know of where I could buy and get an knee length nightshirt I would appreciate the tip.              I have considered the ones in the ladies dept, but teddy bears or flowers aint me.

Time for a coffee I think.

April 3rd:   Here is the update of the Nightshirt that wasn't a Nightshirt.!

Damart, sent me a return authorisation and a bag to send it back to them free of charge.  I thought that was fair enough.

They also told me a load of pony about having problems with their website and that was why the wrong image was on show.......Yeah, Right.

Those of you who dabble with websites will know it only takes a minute to log in and delete an image.!

However, they refunded my money and sent an email to say they hoped we had reached a satisfactory solution.

I said I thought so, but please would they remove me from their mailing list.  That takes three months she said !   WHAT......  Then I received one of those..." Hey, you could be a winner",    mail shots, Telling m I just may have won loads of money.

Just like the ones from the Readers Digest.  The ones that won't take no for an answer.

I wrote across the address, Return to Sender, and so far, I have heard no more.

HOWEVER: Today is the first of April, and I guess they must still be having trouble with the website as the same picture is there.

BE WARNED if you decide to buy anything from these people,  The phone calls are National rate! and the goods may not be what is shown on the website.

However, You may be a lucky winner of a squillion quid. and I don't doubt Damart have thousands of satisfied customers out there.

Eventually, I went to a company called Pukka Pyjamas,

Bought one from them, it looked exactly like the picture,

exept there wasn't a man in it !  and was delivered promptly.

Good quality and I would recommend these people.

Thanks to Barry for his recommendation, by the time I saw it, I had ordered one. but thanks anyway mate.

I gave up looking for men's nightshirts in the shops; they've just disappeared - why do marketing people think men want to wear trousers all day, then all night as well as pyjamas? (I used to until I 'saw the light' and discovered skirts.) Also, men's nightshirts always have long sleeves and I like short sleeves. And the buttons down the front always manage to pull off when I roll over in bed.
Eventually I went into the womens department and bought a 'nighty'. It's just a baggy tee shirt and very comfortable.

    Hi Tim

Online shopping can be a bit frustrating. However, here is a British web site that delivers what it shows and can supply men's nightshirts

    and the sizes make sense!
